I’ve been fairly lucky with the weather for the first 300k so in honesty I shouldn’t be complaining. There was so much about todays ride that just didn’t go according to plan. It probably started when I woke up at 8:30 instead of 7:30 – a late start usually always means the rest of the day won’t end up well (in my case anyway). Route plotted on my garmin I went on my way…
I’m not all that familiar with the east of Leeds so I was quite dependant on my Garmin in showing me the route. First problem. The Garmin 500 is a shit navigational device. Fact. If you want to be directed to where you’re going, this is not the device for you. It doesn’t really help that my Garmin has seemed to be playing up for the last couple of days but none the less, the actual functionality of the maps sections is naff. It’s a bit of a gimmick. If you go ‘off course’ the device simply goes blank… Moving on.
*pours second glass of, large glass, of whiskey* Cycling out of Leeds the weather seemed bliss. There was a bit of a head wind but nothing too major. It seemed as soon as I got over the moderate hills around Leeds the wind really kicked up. I was under the impression that today was going to be an easy flat spin, quite a quick one at that too since I recall last year the AlbaRosa rides out towards York were usually at a faster pace just because of the flat landscape. I was so wrong.’
