Kippford is right on the coast so your pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Travel out ten minutes away from the holiday park and it’s quiet wide open roads, with nothing but stunning picturesque scenery as far the eye can see.
Although unpredictable the weather on this day was beautiful and sunny, at times it was like we were in the south of France roaming around on european roads!
We decided to do a loop round towards Kirkcubright and back over the tops towards Castle Douglas. A few steady rolling hills but with the bonus of long descents and some of the most incredible scenery and wildlife.
I was under the impression being on quieter roads where speed limits are often 60 mph that drivers would be less cautious with cyclists but actually they were some of the most cautious drivers I’ve ever encountered.
Sensible manoeuvres, lots of space and plenty of patience meant cycling on Scottish roads feels safer then any other roads I’ve experienced in UK. Although some of the road surfaces were questionable but overall no complaints could be had. This was road cycling at its best!
