The Leeds Indie Bike project was brought to my attention via Duke Street Studio Tweets earlier in the year. With the Tour De France coming to Leeds there’s been some pretty exciting ideas floating around in terms of promotion/marketing whilst so many people are in the area. In my opinion this is one of the most creative and ingenious ideas!
“120 VINYL STICKERS IN THE SHAPE OF POPULAR BIKE DESIGNS AND PLACED ON PROMINENT WINDOWS THROUGHOUT THE CITY. THE BIKES ARE PLACED ON THE WINDOWS OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES THAT HAVE SIGNED UP AND OF OTHER ORGANISATIONS WHO HAVE ALLOWED US USE OF THEIR WINDOWS TO SUPPORT SMALLER INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES WHO ARE WITHOUT WINDOWS.”
What a great idea right? And bikes being bikes I couldn’t resist getting involved!
Independent businesses around Leeds had the opportunity to choose from a number of bikes, if they didn’t have window space themselves (like me) they would be added in to a random draw of windows provided by others including disused window spaces provided by the council. The project aims to highlight the excellence, versatility and variety of independent businesses in Leeds during the Tour!
It’s also a refreshing (and much more beautiful) idea to the usual scrap bikes painted yellow that are slowly being seen in Otley and Ilkley!
If you happen to be visiting either before or during the tour be sure to get involved, take photos of the indie bikes you see and tag them on twitter with #leedsindiebikes, you could be in for the chance of winning £100 courtesy of The Bike Shop!
